What Will A 5G Network Mean to You? How Will It Change Your World?

2We know it’s coming in the next 3-4 years but what will 5G wireless do for us. Yesterday Nokia gave us a little preview of what’s to come with 5G at Mobile World Congress later this month and that includes a safer car ride and even doctors using wireless robots in surgery. Oh yeah and your wireless connection will be faster. Everyone is asking, will our service providers keep up and even if they can do it how much will we pay.

Nokia claims they have tested 5G connections with download speeds of 30 gigabits per second. That 1,000 times faster than 4G. Before you raise a hallelujah though keep in mind this doesn’t take into consideration obstructions (hills, trees, buildings) and other people on the network which would certainly slow things down but 5G is still guaranteed to be 10-100 times faster than 4G.

The company also mentioned self-driving cars which would need a quick reliable wireless network. Download lag time in a car will kill you. Thanks 5G.

The medical field is cautiously optimistic about real-time surgical capabilities. More robots also means…no, not Terminator but less real people in the lunchroom and working.

Nokia was excited about the virtual reality and the interaction with fellow players immediately.
